Margaret Baskerville Holman George, fondly known by her friends as Margy, died February 22, 2010, in Columbus, Mississippi. She was ninety years old. Memorial services will be held in the Parish Hall of St. Pauls Episcopal Church on Thursday February 25, 2010 at 3 p.m. with The Rev. Sandra DePriest officiating. Visitation will also be held in the church parish hall before the service from 1:30 until 3:00. Mrs. George was born in West Point, Mississippi, on November 25 1919. She attended Macon High School and All Saints School for Girls in Vicksburg, Mississippi. After graduation from All Saints, Mrs. George remained on staff as a teacher of horsemanship and dance. In 1943 she married Richard L. George and moved with him to several U.S. Army posts during WWII. After the war ended, they lived in Oxford, Mississippi where Mrs. George completed her undergraduate degree in Liberal Arts and then earned her Masters Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Mississippi. She taught school in Oxford and in Memphis, Tennessee, while Dr. George completed his medical degree and residency. The Georges settled in Columbus in 1957. Mrs. George was a long-time member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church where she taught Sunday School, was a member of the Earline Robinson Guild, the Altar Guild, and the Episcopal Church Women. She was active in Les Amies Study Club, the Friends of the Library, and was also instrumental in establishing the Columbus Humane Society. Mrs. George is preceded in death by her parents, Captain and Mrs. J.N. Holman. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Dr. Richard L. George and one daughter Rachel Baskerville George.
