Jasper Eugene Lummus, Sr. (December 2, 1932"August 14, 2011) Jasper Eugene Lummus Sr., age 78, died Sunday, August 14, 2011 at his home in Greenwood, MS (Money, MS). Visitation will be held from 11:00 until 2:00 with the services following on Wednesday, August 17, 2011 at 2:00 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held at Double Springs cemetery in Maben, MS at 4:00. Jasper was born December 2, 1932 at Maben, MS (Self Creek) to the late Robert Felix and Jo Ella Butler Lummus. His family moved to Artesia, MS from the time he was about two years old until he was around 65 years old. He was a graduate of the School of Artesia in Artesia, MS where he always loved to play football. He had very fond memories of his football days and his classmates. When he graduated in 1950, Jasper enlisted in the Army. He was stationed in Germany and France in the infantry. After two years in the army, he was discharged, and then went to work with the GM&O Railroad. He was employed as a brakeman and switchman with the GM&O which is now known as the KCS Railroad. In 1955, he and Sue Pearson married, and had three children (Jasper, Jr., Robert, and Paula). After Jaspers parents retired from their grocery store and service station, Jasper and Sue became owners and operators of Lummus Grocery and Service Station located in Artesia, MS for a total of more than 50 years. He took a lot of pride in working at his store and working in the shop. He was a very hard worker and always worked hard for his family and community. They were married for 25 years. In 1992, he retired from the railroad with 40 years of service. In December 2000, Jasper married Ruth Daves Ray and moved to West Point, MS. After a few years later, he and Ruth moved to Money, MS where they have lived for four years. Jasper and Ruth are very active in their hometown church, Riverside Baptist Church, where they are currently members. Jasper always would tell of different and fun stories that were church or Sunday school related. He appreciated all of the members and the leaders of their church. He has also had very fun memories of living on McIntyre Lake, where his true heart lies"fishing and hunting for the big ones!!! He love to fish for catfish and hunt for deer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his little brother, Donald Curtis Lummus. His family was always very special to him. He loved for them to call and for them to come to see him. He also seemed to have a real passion for his favorite cookies, and loved to share them. He will be so very much missed, but will be fondly remembered. Survivors include: Wife, Ruth Daves Lummus; two sons, Jasper Eugene Lummus, Jr. (Pat) Vicksburg, MS and Robert Samuel Lummus (Carol) West Point, MS; one daughter, Paula Sue Lummus Smith (Larry) West Point, MS; one grandson, James Curtis Smith; one stepson, Jimmy Minga (Gail) Olive Branch, MS; two step-daughters, Janice Nester (Larry) Carrollton, MS and Carla Wiggins (Aubrey) Grenada, MS; eight step-grandchildren and 14 step great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Trey Kelly, Larry Smith, Curtis Smith, Daryl Pritchard, Marty Coggins, and Jimmy Potter. Honorary pallbearers will be Coleman Daves, Mike Turner, Carl Daves, Wayne Nester, Arvell Youngblood, Larry Nester, Scotty Nester, and Aubrey Wiggins.
