Mildred W. Moore

Dr. Mildred Willlingham Moore, age 77, of Columbus died Friday, November 16, 2012 at her home in Columbus. Cremation and memorial service arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday, November 23, 2012 from 5:00 PM -7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. A memorial service, with Rev. Deacon Pam Rhea officiating, will be Saturday, November 24, 2012 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home. Following her wishes, Dr. Moores body was cremated, and inurnment will take place later at Pine Rest Cemetery, Foley, AL. The daughter of the late Jesse Lawrence and Gertrude Rudnick Willingham, Dr. Moore was born March 1, 1935 in Foley, AL. She received her Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Alabama. She retired from Mississippi University for Womens Department of English with the title of Professor Emeritus. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa, academic excellence honorary. Dr. Moore was a member of the committee which established the MS School for Mathematics and Science on the MUW campus, and she was the guiding force behind the establishment of the Eudora Welty Writers Symposium, held annually at MUW. An avid reader, she was President of Friends of the Library and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Columbus-Lowndes Public Library. In its heyday, she was also very active with the Little Theatre in Columbus. Dr. Moore is survived by her husband James Riley Moore of Columbus, her son Stephen Dow Bryan of Childersburg, AL, her daughters Julie Gail Jones of Pensacola, FL, Lisa Lynn Bogan of Columbus, and Shaula Moore Hailey of Olive Branch, MS, her brother Larry Willingham (Brinda) of Bay Minette, AL and her sister Myrtle Glatzer of Jackson, MS. She is also survived by her grandchildren Bobby Ray Jones, Joshua Bogan, Jeramiah Bogan, June Melody Bogan, Elyssia Bogan, Josh Hailey, Jordan Hailey Bryan (Chase), and 7 great grandchildren.
