Mr. Cockrell was a member of Columbus, First Baptist > Church where he served as a Life Deacon and over the years > in many other places of responsibilities. He was known to > many in the church and community as PawPaw. Giving to worthy > causes brought him great joy. He encouraged young children > to give a "love offering to Jesus" every Sunday, > as he came to their rooms for the attendance records. > > Mr. Cockrell was retired from the wholesale > food business. He had been a partner of West Point Banana > Company and then Columbus Produce Company. He was a past > member of Columbus Lions Club, member of Gideons > International, served on the Salvation Army Board, served > as hospital volunteer, and for many years a regular visitor > of residents in the nursing and retirement homes. > > He was preceded in death by his parents, two > brothers, two sisters, first wife of 41 years, Helen Barnes > Cockrell, and daughter, Helen Ruth Parker. > > He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Myrick > Cockrell, daughters; Paulette (Chuck)Cockrell Morrow, Susie > (Nathan) Cockrell Wright, Melody Myrick: son, Harvey Myrick, > granddaughters, Janet Morrow, Stephanie Weber, Sharon Adams, > Stacie Bauman, and Dawn Myrick, grandson, Gary Morrow, great > grandchildren: Jordan, Stuart, Janai, and Samuel Weber; > Boardman Adams; Baylor Bauman; Gary Morrow III, Kate Morrow, > a number of nieces and nephews, and many close > "family-like" friends. > > Pallbearers: Larry Rainey, Carey Upton, Sam > Laffoon, Mike McGehee, Dr. Cecil Boswell, Bernard Hammett, > Scot Brown, Dr. Eddie Bozeman. > > Honorary Pallbearers: Deacons of First Baptist > Church, Dr. Frank Dailey, Bruce Jones, Alton Forrester, > Joseph Thompson, Walton Pannell, W.
