Mrs. Leila Marie McDaniel, age 73, of Helena, AL, formerly of Columbus, died Thursday, July 25, 2013 at Shelby Baptist Hospital in Alabaster, AL. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, July 29, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Her service will be Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at 12:00 PM (Noon) in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home, with Pastor Steve Kilpatrick, officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The daughter of the late James Sidney and Vergie Mae Stokes Thrasher, Mrs. McDaniel was born in Columbus January 23, 1940. She was a former member of New Hope Baptist Church, before transferring her church membership to Gospel Light Baptist Church in Helena four years ago. She was formerly a Sales Clerk in several businesses in Columbus. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter Deborah McDaniel Breazeale and her husband Hilery L. McDaniel, who died January 30, 1994 Mrs. McDaniel is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law David D. and Eileen McDaniel of Paris, TN and Douglas Dink and Cheryl McDaniel of Helena, AL. She is also survived by son-in-law Tony Breazeale of Pass Christian, MS and her brothers and sister-in-law Billy and Brenda Thrasher of Columbus, James Thrasher of Gulfport and her sister Peggy Thrasher Ferguson of Columbus. Other survivors include her five grandchildren Kelly Howell, Tony Breazeale, Lee McDaniel, Maria McDaniel and Jeslyn McDaniel and seven great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Greg Bailey, Lester Bailey, Cody Bailey, Sherman Faris, Van Widner, and Alan Thomas. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 16808, Jackson, MS 39236.
