Frederick Arthur Jones Frederick Arthur Jones, 73, died June 10, 2009, at the University of Alabama-Birmingham Hospital. Services are Friday, June 12, 2009, at St. Pauls Episcopal Church, with a visitation in the parish hall at 1 p.m. and the funeral service at 2:30 p.m., with the Very Rev. James Carlyle officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Jones, born in Columbus on July 16, 1935, was the son of the late William Leicester Jones and the late Altie McGahey Jones of Survivors include his wife, Beth Brown Jones; his sister, Hortense Jones Gholson; his stepmother, Brown Key Jones; two daughters: Perrin Jones Kibler (Bryan) of Atlanta, Ga., and Bethea Jones Smith (Ken) of Columbus; and four grandchildren: William McClintic Kibler, John Alton Kibler, Kirby Elizabeth Smith and Carter Reid Smith. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Hunter M. Gholson. Mr. Jones graduated from Demonstration School, Lee High School and, in 1958, from the University of Mississippi with a degree in busi- ness administration. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. As a young man he worked at the license-tag plant operated by Columbus Marble Works and after college served in the Mississippi Army National Guard. He was president of the Columbus Marble Works and founded three businesses: Quality Products in 1964; Columbus Manufacturers in 1967; and Classroom Supply Mart in 1993. He was also associated with Maretta Harrah Marble in Sylacauga, AL, and Gulf States Manufacturing in Starkville. Mr. Jones was a lifelong member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church where he was a vestry- man, senior warden, member of the finance committee and a trustee for the endowment. In 2000 he chaired the churchs committee to call He was a longtime member of the board of Trustmark Bank and had served on the board of the Lowndes County Public Library. He greatly enjoyed combining the company of his friends with fly-fishing trips. Pallbearers will be Mickey Brislin, John Davis, Rodney Glover, George Hazard, Gary Hughes, Tommy Lott, Tommy Moody, Chance Laws, Jim Mauldin and Gary Waldrop.
