DR. LOIS P. HOOD Dr. Lois P. Hood, 80, of Columbus, MS, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, May 25, 2012. Dr. Hood was born on December 18, 1931 to Welmon and Gertrude Perkins, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, James Perkins. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Kenneth Hood; a son, Timothy Davis and his wife, Barbara of Caledonia, MS; a daughter, Darlene Ballard and her husband, Charlie of Raymond, MS; a step-daughter, Lisa Peeks and her husband, Wayne of Fernbank, AL; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandson. The family would especially like to thank Sherri Hanson for the loving care she provided to Dr. Hood during her lengthy illness. In 1973 Dr. Hood acquired a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and went on to earn her Masters and Specialist degrees in early childhood education, all from Mississippi University for Women. She later received her doctorate in education from Mississippi State University. She spent her entire career teaching in the Columbus public school system from which she retired in 1995. She served on the Board of Trustees of Trevecca Nazarene University for several years, and was the first woman to serve in that position. She most recently attended the Community Wesley Nazarene Church in Starkville, after being a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Columbus for many years. She was very devoted to her church and served as the state President of the Nazarene World Mission Society. Services will be held Monday May 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the Columbus First Church of the Nazarene on Ridge Road, with the Rev. Randy Whitbeck and Rev. Gene Cook officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, May 27, from 4 until 6 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, and again one hour prior to service Monday at the church. Interment will follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus. Serving as pallbearers will be, Logan Lux, Sean Wikerson, Seth Swails, T.J. Davis, Randall Reed-Wood, Grant Davis, Bruce Williams, and Dwayne Blankenship
