Casey H. Freeman

Casey H. Freeman, age 86, of Columbus died Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at his home. Visitation will be Friday, March 11, 2011 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the chapel of Memorial Funeral Home with Rev. Wes Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The son of the late Vada and Sula Cosley Freeman, Mr. Freeman was born November 11, 1924 in his familys home in Lowndes County. He was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Army during World War II, most notably in the Battle of the Bulge. He was employed with the Mississippi Dept. of Transportation in highway maintenance for approximately ten years before going to work for the City of Columbus. He retired after over twenty years as the Supervisor of the Street and Sanitation Department for the city. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter Marie Freeman, two brothers Cecil and Clyde Freeman and a sister Grace Shepherd. He is survived by his wife Betty L. Freeman, his son James K. Wheat (Rhonda), his grandchildren Jay Wheat and Angela Wilcox, and great grandchildren Joshua Wilcox, Victoria Wheat and Alexander Casey Wheat. Pallbearers will be Shannon Murphy, Daniel Wheat, Greg Wheat, Jon Wilcox, Lacey Freeman, and Henry Freeman. Memorials may be made to Community Baptist Church, 2490 Yorkville Rd., Columbus, MS 39702.
