FRED CORBELL Fred Oplen Corbell age 79 died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at his residence in Columbus. Graveside services with U.S. Air Force Honors will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 11:30 AM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Clark Richardson officiating. Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home Tuesday, May 15, 2012 from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Mr. Corbell was born on Friday, June 03, 1932 in Lamar County, AL to the late Marvin L. and Annie Laura Wofford Corbell. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran having served in the Korean Conflict. In 1960 he opened a Gulf Service Station in Columbus that he operated until 1970 when he started Corbell Oil Company. He operated that business until his retirement in 1997. He and his wife Jerri loved to travel in their motor home, especially to Roswell, New Mexico where they lived when they were first married. Mr. Corbell was an avid collector of classic cars. Survivors include: His wife of 62 years: Jerald Taylor "Jerri" Corbell Columbus MS One Son: Mike Corbell (Melanie), Columbus, MS One Grandson: Robert Smith, III He also leaves his very special friend and caregiver Sara Crosby, and his other caregivers, Rosie Hinton, Mamie Lowery, and Celia Bankhead.
