JIM CRAIN James Edward Jim Crain age 84 departed this life August 14, 2013 at The Windsor Place Nursing & Rehab Center. Jim was born on November 14, 1928 in Myrtle, MS to the late Cecil and Annie Scott Crain. The family moved to Memphis, TN when he was a young child. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Columbus. Jim was educated in the Memphis Public Schools attending Tech High School, then graduated from Memphis State where he was in ROTC. He began working for Sears Roebuck and Company while he was a student at the age of 16 and retired from Sears after 35 years. At one time he was the manager of the Catalog Sales Store in Columbus, MS and later became the buyer for numerous merchandise departments at the Sears distribution center in Memphis. Upon retiring from Sears he began a career in real-estate, first with Hildebrand Co., then Crye-Leike Realty. Jim led a busy and very active life as an avid fisherman and was also a deer, duck and turkey hunter. He was a member of the Beaver Dam Hunting Club, and enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips with his friends. For his additional enjoyment he owned and operated the first archery shop in Memphis. Failing health prevented him from continuing these activities. Jim is survived by his wife of 23 years, Elizabeth Betty Byars Crain, his step-children, Eddie Byars, Woodie Byars, and Mary Jane Shields. He is also survived by the children of his first marriage Deborah Ann Dixon, Cheryl Lynn Clark, Mark Steven Crain, and James Edward Crain, Jr., all of whom reside in the Memphis area. He also leaves numerous grandchildren, and great grandchildren. A family Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 5:00 PM at Redeemer Evangical Church, 3100 S.Houston Levee Rd., Germantown, TN. Visitation will begin at 4:30 PM. Memorial Funeral Home of Columbus, MS is in charge of arrangements.
