JOHN E. WEATHERS John Edward Weathers age 86 died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at his residence in Rabun Gap, GA. Services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday October 13, 2012 at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tommy Gillon officiating. Burial with U.S. Navy Honors will follow at Beersheba Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Friday October 12, 2012 from 5 pm until 8 pm. Mr. Weathers was born on Sunday, October 18, 1925 in Columbus, MS to the late John Murphy and Dewey Mae Lollar Weathers. He was a charter member, and one of the founding families of Antioch Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy WWII Veteran, serving on an LST in the Pacific. He was the co-founder of Weathers Construction Company in 1982. In 1990 he retired and moved to Raybun Gap, Georgia. He was a loving father and grandfather, and loved being outdoors. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Hazel Forrester Weathers. Survivors include his wife Sue Weathers, Rabun Gap, GA; one daughter Wanda Soukup (Sam), Ocean Springs, MS; one son Gary Weathers (Debi), Columbus, MS; one brother: Arnold Weathers (Connie), Columbus, MS; step-daughters Selina Witt (John); Katrina Donovan (Brian); Anita Swingle (Steve); and Lanette Diss. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren Matt Soukup (Stacy), Emily Hankins (Johnny), Stephens Weathers (Tracy), Kinsley Welch (Andrew), Stephen Witt, Cody Swingle, Clay Swingle,Whitley Diss, Lexie Diss, Ryan Rae, Kalyn Rae, Kelsy Rae, Daniel Griffin (Jennifer),and Krista Griffin, and seven great grandchildren Miranda,Garrett, Emma, Drew, Dylan, Alinea and Kinsley. The Pallbearers will be Mark Weathers, Dan Weathers, Todd Weathers, Larry Weathers, Joe Sheppard, and Drew Hankins, The Honorary Pallbearers will be Dylan Hankins, and Dan Nowell. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Palmer Home For Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS 39703.
