Russell George Spriggs, age 87, of Boynton Beach, Florida, died Wednesday April 21, 2010 at Bethesda Memorial Hospital in Boynton Beach. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at 10:00AM at Memorial Funeral Home with Father Robert Dore, officiating. A graveside service and interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Born October 29, 1922, in West Orange, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Russell Lincoln Spriggs and Alice Wilson Spriggs. Russ graduated from Boonton High School in Boonton, N.J. and received his AA, BA, and Masters Degrees in Business Administration from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, NJ. He was employed 36 years by the NJ Bell Telephone Company. A former resident of Monmouth Beach NJ for 48 years, he served on the Monmouth Beach Board of Education for 9 years, was a member of the Monmouth Beach Fire Department, and past president of the Church of the Precious Blood Mens Club. He also chaired the Community Chest Drive. During World War II he served honorably in the US Coast Guard for 4 years, spending most of the time overseas. He also served as a Captain in the U.S. Army, Signal Corps, during the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters and a brother. He was a Rockhound and enjoyed doing lapidary, golfing, reading and traveling with his family. Mr. Spriggs is survived by his wife, of 56 years, Joyce Dedrick Spriggs of Boynton Beach, FL, and three children, Russell S. Spriggs and Jeanne of Spirit Lake, ID, Douglas G. Spriggs of Palm City, FL, and Laurie Spriggs Hatcher and her husband Thomas M. Hatcher, Sr. of Columbus MS; his much loved grandchildren Christine Spriggs Smoyer and her husband Eric Smoyer, Shania M. Spriggs, Thomas M. Hatcher Jr., and Russell L. Hatcher. He is also survived by much loved nieces and nephews who knew him as Uncle Buddy.
