W.E. BILL TIDWELL W. E. Tidwell, 91, formerly of Columbus, MS and Shawnee Mission, KS passed away Wednesday, August 3 at his home in Rancho Viejo, TX. Graveside services will be held Saturday August 13, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at Friendship Cemetery. Prior to his retirement in 1974, Bill Tidwell was a developer in the Greater Kansas City area. He was instrumental in the development of several prominent projects in Kansas City, including the Heritage Hills Apartments complex, one of the city's first true luxury apartment developments. A native Mississippian, Bill Tidwell began his working career with the Production Credit Association in Columbus, MS. In the late 1940's, he founded and was president of Sawan Seed Co., Inc., a wholesale field seed company in Columbus, MS. In 1953, he sold Sawan Seed to Rudy Patrick Seed Company in Kansas City and joined the company as a Vice President. He remained with the company until the early 1960's when he launched his new career in real estate and development. In retirement, he lived in Brownsville, TX, Clearwater, FL, Dunwoody, GA and Houston, TX. His wife of 62 years, Florie Gault Tidwell, died in 1995. He later married Mildred Gilbert Keel, a long-time family friend. Upon her death in 1999, he returned to the Brownsville area, where he lived in the rancho Viejo Country Club development until his death. Bill Tidwell is survived by two sons, Michael K. Tidwell of Brownsville, and W. Ted Tidwell of Garfield, AR; daughter-in-law, Janet M. Tidwell of Garfield, AR; grandchildren, Brant W. Tidwell (Lucy) of Prairie Village, KS, Scott A. Tidwell (Melissa) of Centennial, CO, and Marnie Tidwell Wykoop (Steve) of Wray,CO and 8 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the nearest chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
