Elwin Louise Hulett

Elwin Louise "Ellie" Williams Hulett, age 87, of Columbus, MS, passed away August 9, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be Sunday, August 12, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Memorial Gardens of Columbus with Rev. Tom Bryson officiating. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3:00 PM Sunday at First Presbyterian Church on Bluecutt Rd. Visitation will be Saturday, August 11, 2012, from 4:00-7:00 PM at Memorial Funeral Home. Mrs. Hulett was born November 19, 1924, in Pisgah, AL, to the late Horace Duard and Vannie Hicks Williams. She received her engineering degree from Auburn University, occupational therapy degree from the Boston School of Occupational Therapy, and her education degree from the Mississippi University for Women. Mrs. Hulett worked for a number of years as an occupational therapist in California before moving to Columbus in 1964. She retired from Caledonia High School after 21 years and was a member of First Presbyterian Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Lee Hulett, brothers, Nofflet Williams and Gene Williams, and sister, Merle Godsey. Survivors include her son, Vernon Lee Hulett, Jr. and wife Teresa of Caledonia, MS, grandchildren, Phillip Lee Hulett of Caledonia, MS, and Vernon "Wesley" Hulett of Caledonia, MS, and sister, Marilyn Butcher of Chattanooga, TN. Pallbearers will be Phillip Hulett, Wesley Hulett, Glen Burns, Jeff Cox, Alan Van Valkenburg, and Greg Lowery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, P.O. Box 2178, Ridgeland, MS, 39157, or First Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 9681, Columbus, MS, 39705.
