Gary Lee Hacker, age 66, of Columbus died January 2, 2008 at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Al. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Memorial Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Memorial Funeral Home Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00pm. His funeral service will be Sunday afternoon at Memorial Funeral Home at 2:00pm, with Rev. David Woods officiating. Graveside services will follow at Memorial Gardens Mr. Hacker was born February 7, 1941 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Harlan Edward Hacker and Mencie L. Hacker Ponton. He was brought up by his father and second mother, Helen Wrozsek Hacker, who also predeceased him in death. He was also predeceased by his son William Edward Hacker and brothers Eddie and Mike Hacker. Mr. Hacker grew up in Cheshire, CT . After graduating from Cheshire High, he enlisted in the Air Force and later attended Ms State University. He owned and operated Gary's Gtrocery and Market for a number of years and later became a salesman. A member of New Salem Baptist Church , he was active in the North Columbus Lions Club and the Jaycees. Mr. Hacker is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ellen Murphy Hacker of Columbus; daughters Beth Hacker, and Lea Ellen Hacker Bobo(Robert), both of Caledonia; sisters Mary Hacker Bickerstaff (Keith), Columbus; Darlene Hacker Early (Don) and Carol Hacker Boucher, both of Cheshire, CT; brothers Max Hacker (Judi), Wallingford, CT; Bill Hacker (Barbara), Meriden, CT and Tommy Hacker, New Mexico; and grandchildren Lee Jaynes, Kristan Bobo, Bryanna Oglesby, and Chandler Bobo. Pallbearers will be Robert Bobo, Lee Jaynes, Mike Murphy, Jimmy Murphy, John Martin and Alan Jaynes. Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, Ms Chapter, P.O. Box 55802, Jackson, Ms 39216.
