Virginia Davis, age 88, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Trinity Healthcare Center in Columbus, Mississippi. She was born in Standard, LaSalle Parish, Louisiana, on August 30, 1921, to John Lee and Bernice Drake Hunter. Her father returned home to Columbus with his wife and family when Virginia was a girl and she attended Lee High School. Virginia married Roswell Lanier Davis on October 22, 1942. She traveled and lived all over the world, as an Air Force wife, but always considered Columbus her home. She was a talented artist, decorator, and an antique collector. Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by infant sons Roswell Lanier Davis, Jr. and James Larry Davis; her husband and parents; her siblings and their spouses John Lee Hunter, Jr. and Virginia Lavender Hunter, Helen Bernice Hunter Stoney and Paul Roberts Stoney, and Ralph David Hunter and Betty Jean Sharp Hunter; a nephew John Lee Hunter, III., and a niece Deborah Jane Debbie Hunter Newkirk. Survivors are Hunter nieces Virginia Lavender "Pete" Smith, Sara Alice Skaggs, Sallie Melissa Carson, Betty Jean "Jeanie" Hickey and Anne Louise Sizemore; and Stoney nieces Helen Bernice Musgrave and Paula Roberts Perdue; also surviving are numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Visitation for Virginia Davis will be held at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home on Friday, November 20, from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m., with a graveside service following at Friendship Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., with Rev.
