Victor "Vic" Shelton Victor Carl "Vic" Shelton, age 81, of Columbus, MS, passed away February 16, 2011, at the VA Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 19, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Friday, February 18, 2011, from 5:00-8:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mr. Shelton was born June 30, 1929, in Hamilton, MS, to the late Thomas Matthew and Nettie Noe Shelton. He was a graduate of Hamilton High School and was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Air Force. Mr. Shelton owned and operated Shelton Salvage & Auto Sales for 40 years and was a long time member of the Pleasant Hill Community. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion and was an avid racing fan and enjoyed the Columbus Speedway. In addition to his parents, Mr. Shelton was preceded in death by a son, Ernest Anthony "Tony" Shelton. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis M. Shelton of Columbus, daughter, Lori Ann Shelton of Pearl, MS, sister, Mary Dawkins and her husband, Carlos of Tuscaloosa, AL, and a number of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Daryl Upton, Greg Smith, Allen Harvey, Tim Younger, Mike Barton, and Russell Langley. Honorary pallbeaers will be Boo Ferguson, Harold Barton, and all friends of the family. Memorials may be made to the donor's favorite charity.
