Andrew James "Jim" Clardy, age 76, of Millport, AL, passed away September 18, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 20, 2012, at 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Sammy Crawford officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Thursday, September 20, 2012, from 12:30 PM until 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mr. Clardy was born February 26, 1936, in Pickens County, AL, to the late George Byrd and Addie Ruffin Clardy. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served two terms and was a member of the VFW. Mr. Clardy was retired after being self employed working for several contractors including Conn Construction. He also worked and traveled for a number of years for United Erectors of Grand Rapids, MI. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clardy was preceded in death by brothers Clayton Clardy, Walter Clardy and his wife Dot, sister Mary Huffman and her husband Curt. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Betty Conn Clardy of Millport, AL, son, William George Clardy of Ellisville, MS, daughters, Pamela Clardy of Huntsville, AL, and Becky Clardy of Columbus, MS, sister, Otley Swartz of Steens, MS, and grandchildren, Victoria Cassidy of Decatur, AL, Jordan Price of Paw Paw, WV, and Jullian Reinitz of Columbus, MS. Nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Tuggle, Billy Joe Carroll, Toby Atkins, and all of Mr. Clardy's friends.
