Curtis D. Brown, age 84, of Steens, MS, passed away April 9, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery in Lamar County, AL, approximately four miles from Steens, MS, on Fernbank Road. Larry Montgomery will be officiating and Gunter & Peel Funeral Home directing. Mr. Brown was born August 30, 1928, in Splunge, MS, in Monrroe County to the late Henry and Margie Boyd Brown. He was a truck driver before entering the United States Navy where he served aboard an L.S.T. during the Korean Conflict. While in the military, he became an accomplished photographer during his off duty time. After his military service, he entered Mississippi State University and became an accountant. He retired from Dairy Fresh Corp. as the Comptroller and the Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Brown was a self-taught master craftsman and inventor who enjoyed the challenges of building and repairing virtually anything. Mr. Brown was known for his comnpassion and generosity for others, and will be remembered as an unselfish and kindhearted human being. Mr. Brown was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ, where he served The Lord, his family and his community. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lee Brown. Survivors include his wife, Betty Rose Brown of Steens, MS, sons, Kenneth Brown and his wife Cynthia, and C. Alan Brown and his life partner Eric Tristani, and Brian Brown, granddaughters, Kylie Brown and Sarah Brown, and a host of nephews. Pallbearers will be members of the Steens Church of Christ.
