Joseph Clarence "J. C." Perkins, age 83, of Columbus, MS, passed away September 9, 2011, at Lake Norris Fishing Club. Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, September 12, 2011, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mr. Perkins was born May 12, 1928, in Lowndes County, MS, to the late Joseph Clarence and Gordie Smith Perkins, Sr. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army during the occupation of Japan. Mr. Perkins was a founder of Monroe- Tufline Manufacturing with his brother, the late Joseph Perkins. He served as vice president until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman and member of Lake Norris Fishing Club. Mr. Perkins attended Lee High School where he was a member of the Chesterfield Club and attended Mississippi State University. He was a member of First Baptist Church and the Gerald Scallions Sunday School Class. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence Donnell Perkins, Joseph Sparks Perkins, Perry Clifton Perkins, and Blewett Perkins, and sister, Juanita Perkins Cooper. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Hazeltine Perkins of Columbus, MS, son, Sid Perkins and his wife Melody of Columbus, MS, daughters, Jean Provine and her husband Layne of Collierville, TN, and Lynn Streets and her husband Chuck of Alabaster, AL, sister-in-law, Judy Perkins of Meridian, MS, grandchildren, Jordan, Logan, Connor, and Cade Perkins, Charles, Will, Annesley Grace, Mary Margaret, Benjamin, and Lily Streets, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Tim Perkins, Perry Perkins, Jim Cooper, Adair Cox, Donnell Perkins, Danny Mullins, Andy Stafford, and Michael Kerby. Honorary pallbearers will be Pat Shackelford, Jerry Stockman, Roy Lewis, Bob Maddox, Ron Good, members of the Gerald Scallions Sunday School Class, Dr. Phillip Pearson, Dr. Jack Reed, and Dr. Rusty Linton.
