Sarah Sims Walley, age 91, of Columbus, MS, passed away October 9, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Graveside services will be Saturday, October 12, 2013, at 11:00 AM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Melvin Mordecai officiating and Gunter & Peel Funeral Home directing. Sarah was born in Columbus, MS, to the late George T. and Annabell Wells Sims. She was a graduate of MSCW. While living in Columbus, she worked as secretary treasurer for First Federal Savings and Loan for ten years. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church of Columbus, MS, and was a faithful friend and devoted mother. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Mason A. Walley. Mrs. Walley was an avid golfer and bridge player. After leaving Columbus, she lived in Atlanta, GA, Birmingham, AL, Kansas City, KS, and St. Petersburg, FL, then moved back to Columbus, MS. Survivors include her daughter, Carolyn W. Smith of Columbus, MS, and son, George A. Walley of Lees Summit, MO. In lieu of flowers, the family requests for memorials to be made to Central United Methodist Church, now Covenant United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 9552, Columbus, MS, 39705.
