BRODIE SLOAN - Brodie C. Sloan, age 92, of Columbus, MS, formerly of Vicksburg, MS, died July 1, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Monday, July 5, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Annunciation Catholic Church with Father Robert Dore officiating and Father Alfred Camp assisting. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will also be Monday, July 5, 2010, one hour prior to the service at Annunciation Catholic Church. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Sloan was born April 25, 1918, in Harrell, AR to the late Charles R. and Miram Bland Sloan. He was a veteran of WWII and Korea serving in both the U. S. Army and U. S. Air Force. Mr. Sloan participated in the Battle of the Bulge and was a lifetime member of the VFW. He retired from the U. S. Air Force in 1963 and moved to Vicksburg, MS where he lived for 43 years before moving to Columbus in 2006. He was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church and in addition to his parents, was preceded in death by a sister, Madras Hannagen. Survivors include his wife, Leonor L. Sloan of Columbus, MS, daughter, Wanda Sloan Holley of Columbus, brother J. C. Sloan of Vicksburg, MS, sister, Reba Todd of New Orleans, LA, and grandchildren, Hope Holley Durst (Don) of Columbus, MS, Daniel Sloan Holley of Ft. Worth, TX, and John Hampton "Hamp" Holley of Columbus. Pallbearers will be nephews and the Columbus Air Force Base Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Annunciation Catholic Church 823 College St. Columbus, MS 39701 or St. Aloysius High School 1900 Grove St. Vicksburg, MS 39183.
