Isabel Margaret Thomson Christophersen, age 99, of Columbus, MS, passed away November 27, 2013, at Trinity Healthcare. A private family committal service will be held at a later date at Corinth National Cemetery with Gunter & Peel Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Christophersen was a first generation American, born to Scottish immigrants, in Kearny, NJ, on June 29, 1914, and grew up in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn, NY. She was a 1932 graduate of Erasmus Hall High School and spent the next twelve years working at the New York Life Insurance Co. in Manhattan. On June 14, 1941, she married George Wilhelm Christophersen. After World War II, the couple served as house parents at the Andrus School in Yonkers, NY, before moving to Parkchester in the Bronx to start a family. She bore two children, Bill and Barbara; became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church; and returned to work as a departmental assistant manager at the American Council of Life Insurers. Shortly after moving to the Jersey Shore in 1972, she retired from the ACLI and became an active member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church. In 1998, the couple relocated to Columbus, MS. Isabel was preceded in death by her husband George, parents Margaret Douglas and David Thomson, and sister Anna Hill. Survivors include son, Bill Christophersen of New York City, daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Mason Daniel of Columbus, MS, granddaughter, Bethany Bordeaux (Keith) of Nashville, TN, step grandchildren, Mason Daniel (Symantha), Michael Daniel (Stacy), Marcia Sharpe (Jimmy), Mary Daniel, and 10 step great grandchildren, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Memorials may be made to Trinity Healthcare Family Group, 230 Airline Road, Columbus, MS, 39702.
