Bill J. Wheeler, 84, of Columbus, Mississippi passed away after a brief illness December 19, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia. Son of Mary Opal Wheeler Brown, Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years " Mildred Virginia Wallace Wheeler; son Larry Dale Wheeler and daughter-in-law Jean Lovorn Wheeler; granddaughters Kim Wheeler Lee (husband Robbie Lee); Kris Wheeler McGlone (husband Tim McGlone); two great grandchildren Madison Taylor Lee and Jackson Gladstone Lee and a third great grandchild expected in early August 2014. Bill was co-owner of Wheeler Roofing from 1946 until his retirement in 1987. Beloved husband, father and grandfather; Bills passion in life was spending time with his family, as well as watching Westerns and old war movies. Active pallbearers are: Robbie Lee, Tim McGlone, Mike Derby, Todd Derby, Tim Derby and Mearl Sims. Honorary pallbearers are: Burt Wheeler, Doug Wheeler, Wayne Wheeler, Todd Wheeler, Scott Wheeler, Jason Wheeler, Earl Sims, Billy Sims, Mayo Ruffin, Leon Burkhalter and Carl Hildreth. The family will receive visitors Sunday, December 22, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Gunter and Peel Funeral Home at 903 College Street, Columbus, Mississippi, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial with U.S. Army Honors will be at Walnut Grove Cemetery in Millport, Alabama.
