Gay Garner Grant, age 91, of Columbus, MS, passed away July 26, 2014, at her residence. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 29, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Center Hill Baptist Church in Hamilton, MS, with Rev. Terry Edwards officiating. The interment will immediately follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, July 28, 2014, from 5:00 - 8:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Grant was born February 6, 1923, in Hamilton, MS, to the late W. W. and Lora House Garner. She was a graduate of Caledonia High School and Mississippi University for Women. Mrs. Grant was a school teacher for 14 years and worked as an accountant for Willis Grant & Son Construction. She was a member of Center Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Grant was preceded in death by her husband, Willis J. Grant, and brothers, James Garner and Woodie Garner. Survivors include her son, Willis J. Grant, Jr. and his wife Ann of Columbus, MS, daughter, Janet Grant Blalock of Columbus, MS, brother, Norris Garner of Hot Springs, AR, sisters, Georgia Cockerham of Hamilton, MS, andMargie King of Knoxville, TN, grandchildren, James Grant, Alan Grant, Jason Blalock, and Jared Blalock, great grandchildren, Lauren Blalock, Justin Blalock, Hunter Blalock, and Wyatt Blalock, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be James Grant, Alan Grant, Jason Blalock, Jared Blalock, Justin Blalock, Hunter Blalock, Wyatt Blalock, and Terry Cockerham. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Center Hill Baptist Church.
