Michael West Gunter, age 58, of Columbus, MS, passed away September 11, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Bob Wilburn officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, September 14, 2013, one hour prior to the service at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mr. Gunter was born December 21, 1954, in Greenwood, MS, to Katherine Shepard Gunter of Columbus, MS, and the late James West Gunter, Jr. He was a graduate of Caldwell High School and attended East Mississippi Community College. Mr. Gunter was a graduate of the State Police Academy, served as a volunteer fire fighter, and enjoyed singing in a gospel quartet. In addition to his mother, survivors include his sons, James Nail and his wife Carole of Starkville, MS, Wes Gunter and his wife Jessica of Brandon, MS, and Ryan Harrison of Saltillo, MS, daughter, Jennifer Livingston and her husband Price of New Albany, MS, sister, Gayle Canion and her husband Ron of Columbus, MS, and grandchildren, Mary Katherine Gunter, Brooklyn Marie Gunter, Malcolm Shepherd Nail, and Zoe Allie Nail.
