Mrs. Erma Earline Sturgis, age 81, of Columbus, died Friday, February 22, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Healthcare-Golden Triangle. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday, February 24, 2013 from 6:00 PM -8:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Monday, February 25, 2013 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Gaylord Brownlee officiating at Mineral Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, McShan, AL. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery. The daughter of the late John Earlie and Addie Leo Burgess Sobley, Mrs. Sturgis was born July 26, 1931 in Reform, AL. She was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church, and was a featured soloist at many area revivals in her younger days. She retired in 1997 from Baptist Memorial Hospital where she had been a medical transcriptionist for over twenty years, and she continued to work part-time for several years at Baptist. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her son Jon Kevin Sturgis. She is survived by her daughters Debora D. Sturgis and Michelle Marie Moss and her daughter-in-law Cheryl Sturgis, all of Columbus. She is also survived by her six grandchildren Jon Kevin Sturgis, Jr. (Karen), Jennifer Lynn Sturgis Brackin (Lance), Jamie Michelle Martin (Jeremy), Kayla Michelle Mendez (Antonio), Jana Nicole Zazueta (Aldolfo) and Erica Paige Klaas (Jonathan Evans), and eight great - grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Jeremy Martin, Adolfo Zazueta, Jonathan Evans, Kevin Sturgis, Tom Watkins , Jeremy Howard and Antonio Mendez. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Matthew Wade, and the staffs of Baptist Memorial Healthcare-Golden Triangle and Aurora Health and Rehabilitation.
