Guy Manson Nation, Jr., age 90, of Columbus, MS, died April 12, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital of Columbus. Funeral servcies will be Thursday, April 15, 2010, at 1:30 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Dr. Albert Wilkerson officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. The visitation will also be Thursday, April 15, 2010, from noon until 1:30 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mr. Nation was born January 21, 1920, in Birmingham, AL, to the late Guy M. and Eugenia Moore Nation, Sr. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. Mr. Nation attended Mississippi State University and retired after 35 years as a postal clerk with the U. S. Postal Service. He was a member of the East End Baptist Church and was recognized in September, 2009, for serving as a Sunday School teacher for 50 years. Mr. Nation was preceded in death by his wife, Helen King Nation. Survivors include a daughter, Beth Frankenburger of Sequin, TX, sons and daughters-in-law, Bill & Florence Nation of West Point, MS, and Cecil & Doris Nation of Gore Springs, MS, brother, William R. Nation of Philadelphia, MS, and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Boyd Nation, Philip Nation, Paul Nation, Joseph Nation, Jordan Hawkins, and Adam Wear. Honorary pallbearers will be Charlie Veasey, Travis Berry, Mel Sharp, Ernie Smith, Al Cummings, John Hillhouse, Jerry Kendall, Mack Pace, and Maro & Rick Manning. Memorials may be made to the East End Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Box 8480 Columbus, MS 39705.
