Clarence Newton Dale, Jr., age 89, of Columbus, MS, passed away November 18, 2010, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Sunday, November 21, 2010, at 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating. The private, family interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will also be Sunday, November 21, 2010, one hour prior to the service at the church. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Dale was born May 8, 1921, in Lowndes County, MS, to the late Clarence N. and Madie Rebie Springfield Dale, Sr. He was a graduate of Caledonia High School and received his BS degree in forestry from Auburn University. Mr. Dale was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army Air Corp as a B - 24 pilot. He worked as a forester for Weyerhaeuser Company for 24 years and attended First Baptist Church and Main Street Presbyterian Church. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Camin Dale, and brother, Ellis Dale. Survivors include his son, Robert C. "Bobby" Dale and his wife Sueanne of Columbus, MS, daughter, Rebecca Claire Dale Harris and her husband Tom of Franklin, NC, grandchildren, Mary-Hall Johnson and her husband August of Longmont, CO, Connely Dale and his wife Ashley of Columbus, MS, Andrew Dale and his wife Amy of Memphis, TN, Luke Harris of Franklin, NC, and Laura Harris of Franklin, NC, and great grandson, Ransom Johnson of Longmont, CO. Pallbearers will be Connely Dale, Andrew Dale, August Johnson, and Luke Harris. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, Because He Lives, P.O. Box 829, Columbus, MS, 39703.
