Charles H. "Chicken" Edgeworth, age 70, of Columbus died Saturday, April 19, 2014 at his home in Columbus. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home will be in charge of his arrangements. His body will be cremated, and his ashes will be scattered at his favorite place on the river at a later date.
The older son of the late Onney Turner and Mildred Oglesby Edgeworth, Mr. Edgeworth was born September 11, 1943 in Columbus, MS. He was a 1962 graduate of Stephen D. Lee High School and served four years in the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic. He retired from the City of Columbus Fire Department after twenty years of employment. While employed with the city, he also was associated with Easley Refrigeration & Electric. He then was employed with Leigh Mall as Maintenance Manager for twenty years. He also worked with the Mississippi Regional Housing Authority for six years.
He enjoyed sharing his love of cooking with his good friend and former employer Buddy Easley at Buddy's camphouse on Old Macon Road. Over the years, Buddy, Kathy and their daughter Angelia became his second family.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Thomas L. and Vicki Edgeworth of Brandon and their children Thomas Jeffrey Edgeworth (Brook) and Angie Edgeworth Templeton (Bryan) and six great nieces and great nephews Cole, Luke, Stockston and Avery Edgeworth and Addison and Brennan Templeton.
