PHYLLIS C. SHELTON Phyllis Carlato Shelton age 86 died Friday, August 17, 2012 at Hospice Ministries Ridgeland MS. Services will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tommy Whaley officiating. Burial with U.S. Marines Honors, will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Tuesday from 9:30 until service time. Mrs. Shelton was born on March 01, 1926, in Westfield, NY to the late Mary and Philip Carlato of Dunkirk, NY. She was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church, and a Sergent in the U.S. Marines for a tour, and the U.S. Air Force for a tour. She served during the time of the Korean War, After serving her country, she married Victor Shelton and moved to Columbus, MS. where they resided for 50 years in the Pleasant Hill community. During that time she was employed by New Hope Schools and K-Mart for 20 years. Before the military she was employed as a Hairdresser in Eeri, and later worked as a server at Toffinetti's on Times Square in New York, NY for 5 years. She enjoyed cooking, eating out, and traveling. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Victor Shelton, and their son, Ernest Anthony Shelton, a sister, Margaret Knab, Buffalo, NY. Survivors include: A daughter: Lori Ann Shelton, Pearl, MS. A brother, Anthony "Tony" Carlato, Dunkirk, NY. A sister, Patricia (Robert) Schwerfager, Fredonia, NY. A host of Nieces, Nephews, and In-laws. The U.S. Marine Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to: Columbus-Lowndes Humane Society 13 Airline Road Columbus, Mississippi 39701 or Annunciation Catholic Church 823 College St. Columbus, MS 39701
