Earline Jones Land

Earline Jones Land, age 90, died December 15, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Healthcare -Golden Triangle. Visitation will be at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 18, 2012. The service will follow at 11:00 AM in the chapel, with Rev. Ralph Windle officiating, assisted by Rev. Steve Lammons. Interment will be at Friendship Cemetery. Mrs. Land was born January 25, 1922 in Caledonia to J. Clyde and Bobbie Green Jones. She graduated from Caledonia High School, Class of 1940. She grew up in the Mt. Zion Cumberland Presbyterian Church, which she joined in 1933 and in which she was ordained as a Deacon in 1954. In her senior years, she joined Wesley Methodist Church, and participated in the Keenagers at First United Methodist Church. Family was a deep value of Mrs. Land. She appreciated and respected those ancestors who had preceded her, the family into which she was born, and the family which she made. She was a fulltime wife, mother, and homemaker until her children were grown. She then worked at Fairlane Drugs and at the Fashion Barn. Mrs. Land loved flowers, birds, and all things of nature. She enjoyed working in the yard, and she and her husband achieved Yard of the Month designation multiple times in the Chamber of Commerce 1980's beautification recognition program. She was quietly supportive of her husbands career and his community service as an election commissioner. Mrs. Land was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Will Ottley Jones and John Clyde Jones, Jr.; and sister Alice Jones Ballard. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Grover Walter GW Land; daughters Barbara (Leon) McGarity and Debra Debbie (Larry) Duke of Columbus; son Walter Ottley Bubba Land, Columbus; four grandchildren: Tammie (Mark) Stafford, Tiffany (Brian) Custard, Wendi (Ellis) Lachney, all of Columbus, and Andrew Andy (Meg) Duke of Flowood; and four great grandchildren: Mckensi Lachney, Wyatt Duke, and Catie and Chaney Grace Custard. Pallbearers will be Andy Duke, Wes Mims, Dick Spann, Randy Harris, Bill Land, and David Dortch. Honorary Pallbearers will be Elsa Davis, Dudley Pope, Ann Windle, Rebecca Witke, Bill Davis, Ray Crane, Tommy Conn, Barbara McElrath, Joy West, W.V. West, Don West, Dr. Norman Ford, Dr. John Whitecar & Staff, Baptist Hospice & Staff, Dr. Michael Duckworth, and Dr. Doyle Sumrall.
