LILA "MAC" HAMMERMEISTER Lila Fay "Mac" McFarland Hammermeister, age 83, of Columbus, MS, passed away February 8, 2011, at Regency Hospital in Meridian, MS. Funeral services will be Thursday, February 10, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Dr. Sam Morris officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation is also on Thursday, February 10, 2011, one hour prior to the service at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Hammermeister was born December 5, 1927, in Ashland, KS, to the late Clair C. and Dora B. Perry McFarland. She worked for many years as a private secretary and was a member of the DAR. Mrs. Hammermeister was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and ringing hand bells. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Orval E. Hammermeister, and granddaughter, Kayln Kurtz. Survivors include her son, Kurt Hammermeister of Columbus, MS, daughters, Karen Kurtz and her husband, Kenny of Starkville, MS, and Kay Totty and her husband Jim of Alvin, TX, sister, Bonnie Lee Ferguson of Darlington, SC, grandchildren, Kylie Kurtz Kay and her husband Stephen of Meridian, MS, Raegan Martin Foster and her husband Rob of Melbourne, AR, and Jill Martin of Alvin, TX, and great grandchildren Caitlin, Abby, Cheyenne, Beka, and Damien. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 52, Columbus, MS, 39703 or to the donor's favorite charity.
