RUBY McCOWN Ruby McCown age 77 died Friday, April 16, 2010 at University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson. Services will be held Monday, April 19, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Mickey Dalrymple and Rev. Sammy Crawford officiating. Burial will follow at Piney Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday at the church from 9:30 AM until service time. Mrs McCown was born on Tuesday, June 21, 1932 in Steens, MS to the late Jessie Clarence and Alice Green Atkins. She was a member of Fairview Baptist Church where taught the 3rd grade Sunday School for many years. She was a retired employee of National Bank of Commerce (Cadence Banking) with 44 years of service. She was also a karate instructor for the Columbus Karate Association for 32 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Billy Lee McCown and her brother James H. Atkins. Survivors include: One Son: Dennis McCown (Teresa), Steens, MS One Brother: Jessie Atkins, Jr., Fayetteville, NC Five Sisters: Opal Wallace (George), Corpus Christi, TX Linda Traylor (Dubbs), McComb, MS Frances Rector, Columbus, MS Elizabeth Perkins (Thomas H.), Bessemer, AL Mary Nadeau, Ft. Worth, TX Grandsons: Jamie McCown (Meg) Southaven, MS Cory McCown Steens, MS Pallbearers will be: Jamie McCown, Cory McCown, Stan Rector, John Dorroh, Stan McCown, and Kenn Brown. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Her church family at Fairview Baptist Church, all her 3rd grade Sunday School Students, and all her Columbus Karate Association students.
