ARLENE "BOOTS" HARTLEY Arlene Hanscom "Boots" Hartley, age 85, of Columbus, MS, passed away September 10, 2011, at Trinity Healthcare. Funeral services will be Thursday, September 15, 2011, at 11:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. James Black officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus. Visitation will also be Thursday, September 15, 2011, from 10:00 - 11:00 AM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Hartley was born September 28, 1925, in Amery, WI, to the late Archie and Gladys McKinstry Hanscom. She retired as chief telephone operator from Columbus Air Force Base after 30 years and was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church. Mrs. Hartley was the RSVP band leader for a number of years and she enjoyed camping and belonging to various camping clubs in Lowndes County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cleophus "Bud" Hartley. Survivors include her daughters, Sherry Hartley Cotton and her husband Andrew of Brooksville, MS, and Sandra Hartley Bates of Columbus, MS, sister, Nancy Hatella of Amery, WI, grandchildren, Jericho Bates and his wife Carla of Columbus, MS, Rachel Pounders of Columbus, MS, and Cody Pounders of Columbus, MS, and great grandchildren, Katelyn and Alexis. Pallbearers will be Andrew Cotton, Cody Pounders, Jericho Bates, and Tim Abels. Memorials may be made to the Baptist Memorial Cancer Center, 2520 5th St. North, Columbus, MS, 39705.
