JOHNNIE RUTH HARRELL - Johnnie Ruth Wheat Harrell, age 92, of Columbus, MS, died August 11, 2010, at Trinity Healthcare. Funeral services will be Saturday, August 14, 2010, at 11:00 AM at Gunter and Peel Chapel with Billy Ferguson officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Lone Oak Cemetery in Steens, MS. Visitation will also be Saturday, August 14, 2010, one hour prior to the service at Gunter and Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Harrell was born October 14, 1917, in Pickens County, AL, to the late Johnnie G. and Naomi Baines Wheat. She was a retired seamstress from Seminole Manufacturing and a member of the Columbus Church of Christ. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Harrell, son and daughter-in-law, Willie Earl and Myrtle Nell Harrell, son, Jimmy Lee Harrell, granddaughter, Tammy Harrell, and brothers, William Albert and Zelbert Wheat. Survivors include her brother, Elbert Wheat (Carol) of Steens, MS, sisters, Pearlie Freeman of Columbus, MS, Betty Freeman (Casey) of Columbus, MS, Virginia Dowdle of Columbus, MS, and Frances Lindsey (Jack) of Gordo, AL, 3 Grandchildren, 6 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Allen Jones, Jerry Harrell, Greg Wheat, Lacy Freeman, Charles Bush, and Henry Freeman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. James Woodard, Wyman Mason, William Mason, Wilburn Logan, and the staff of Trinity Retirement Community and Healthcare. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lone Oak Cemetary Fund, c/o Elbert Wheat, 80 Mason Circle, Steens, MS 39766.
