Eloise Lamar Crossley, of Columbus, Mississippi died Friday, January 31, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. She was the devoted wife for 52 years of Columbus merchant Loyd Kimble Crossley. Mrs. Crossley, a native of Ingomar Mississippi, was the daughter of Mildred Virginia Robbins and Guildy Roy Lamar. She and her family moved to Columbus Mississippi in 1939, where she graduated from S.D. Lee High School in 1942. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Madge Lamar Johnson and brother, E. Howard Lamar, and an infant son. Survivors include her sisters, Ruth Lamar Tangren (Burke), Bountiful, Utah, Shirley Lamar Hughes (Byron), Roy, Utah, her brother-in-law, Hal Johnson, Spanish Fork, and sister-in-law, Peggy Byars Lamar, Meridian, MS. She is survived by her daughters, Robyn Crossley East, Jackson, MS, Marilyn Crossley Fields (Vic), and Angela Crossley Ferraez (Steve), both of Columbus, MS, 10 grandchildren, Jessica Fields Riddle, Jeremy Ferraez, Chad Ferraez, Jennifer Dean Mestayer, Alana Fields, Nicholas Fields, Jared Dean, Sara Fields, Jace Ferraez, Cory Ferraez, 14 great grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Mrs. Crossley was a long-time member of First Baptist Church where she was a member of the adult choir, Women on Missions, and teacher of the Eloise Crossley Sunday school class for over 20 years. In previous years, she was actively involved with her husband as a lifetime Gideons Auxiliary member, the Salvation Army Advisory Board, and the Heritage Civitan Club. She was also a previous member of the Lowndes County Republican Women. Mrs. Crossley was the co-owner of Crossleys Mens Store for over 50 years and actively assisted her husband in promoting downtown Columbus through the Downtown Merchants Association. She was also a long-time member of the Les Amies Study Club, the Columbus Music Study club, and the director of the Mississippi Federation of Music Clubs District Festival. Mrs. Crossley was active in the music community and gospel music all of her life. She was a very special lady known for her hospitality, home-cooked meals and respected for her concern for the community. She will be remembered for her love of the Lord, family, friends, and the church. Pallbearers are Billy Crossley, Alan Lamar, Rick McGill, Ira Carter, Walter Cole, and Jeff Smith. Honorary Pallbearers are Doug Moulds, Henry Grady Wright, Buddy Crossley, Manley Hopper, Bobby Crossley, Ed Sprouse, Henry Morgan, Arnold Rushing, Alvin Bobo, and Jerry Northington. The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Homeplace of Columbus and Oak Tree Manor of Amory for their special care during the last year. Visitation and funeral services will be held at First Baptist Church on Monday, February 3 with the visitation beginning at 12 pm and the funeral service immediately following at 2:00 pm with Dr. Shawn Parker officiating.
