Mr. Freddie Louis Herndon 71, died July 10, 2009 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday July 14, 2009 at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will be held Monday July 13, 2009 from 5 until 7 at Gunter & Peel. Interment to follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Herndon was born February 6, 1938 in Batesville, MS to the late Gene and Irene Homer Herndon. He attended River Bend Baptist Church and was a retired sales manager for the paper industry. He was preceded in death by his father, Gene Herndon; mother, Irene H. Marshall; step-father, Thomas Marshall; his first wife, Nila Herndon and his son, James "Jimmy" Herndon. Mr. Herndon loved hunting, fishing, playing cards and dominoes with his friends at the Pop a Top Lounge. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl H. Herndon of Columbus, MS; his sons, Michael Herndon of Sarasota, FL; Toby Herndon of Aberdeen, MS and Sam Langston (Sherrie) of Calhoun, LA; daughter, Stephanie Guidry of Calhoun, LA; sister, Peggy Willis of Columbus MS; half brother, Billy Herndon of Grenada, MS; half sister, Cindy Herndon of Grenada, MS; 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and his faithful friend Poncho. Pallbearers will be Randy Frunk, Mike Wood, Roy Doug Thompson, Mac McGee, Richard Keene and Johnny Kelly. Honorary Pallbearers will be James "J.B." Bruce, Doug Williams, Derek Hurrell, William "Bill" Crump, Mike Fowler, Tommy Clark , Bobby Cosby, Barry Weston, Danny Duke, Shane Dickerson and his Card and Domino playing friends.
