Lorene Adair Polk, age 89, of Columbus passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Healthcare. Services will be held Saturday February 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home Chapel, with Minister Billy Ferguson and Don Cole officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday, February 18, 2012 from noon until service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Polk was born November 2, 1922 in Lamar County, AL to the late Otto & Ellie Adair. She was a lifetime resident of Columbus, MS and was a longtime member of Columbus Church of Christ, where she taught Bible Class for over 30 years. She enjoyed reading and traveling, and was an active member of The Red Hat Society . In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Woodford R. Polk, and sister " Eulene Ramsey of Winona, MS. Survivors include: Son " Bobby Polk and his wife Marie, Columbus, MS and brother " Billy Titus Adair and his wife Doris, Prattville, AL; grandchildren " Kristy Polk, Boston, MA and Andy Polk and wife Rachel, Nashville, TN, and one great grandchild, Eva Polk, Nashville, TN. Pallbearers will be Roger Collins, Frank Golden, Gene Yates, Tommy Johnson, Joe Thompson, and Donald Barksdale. The family would like to thank Dr. Barton Williams, The staff of New Hope Medical Clinic, and the nurses and staff of the 3rd floor at Baptist Memorial Healthcare-GT for their loving and professional care. The family requests that donations be sent to Columbus Church of Christ, 2401 7th Street, North Columbus, MS 39705 for the Casa de Esperanza mission in Honduras.
