Mitzi Jo McDaniel McGill died Friday, December 13, 2013 at Baptist Memorial Hospital " Golden Triangle. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home will be in charge of her services. Visitation will be Sunday, December 15, 2013 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Evangel Church. The funeral will be Monday, December 16, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Evangel Church with Rev. Ron Delgado officiating. Burial will immediately follow in Memorial Gardens Cemetery. The daughter of Carl Preston McDaniel and the late Joan Powell McDaniel, Mitzi was born April 6, 1958 in Columbus. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Mississippi University for Women in 1981 and was a member of Jr. Auxiliary. Mitzi was also a member of Evangel Church, where she faithfully served and impacted lives at every age. She used her musical talents by fulfilling the role of church organist from 1985 to 1994. Her love for children moved her to help teach childrens church for several years. She also led the Childrens Christmas Choir in amazing productions from 2002-2009. In 1999 Junior Bible Quiz began in Mississippi because of Mitzi and Mikes influence and persistence for children to learn the word of God. Evangels JBQ teams won first place every year that they participated. Mitzis leadership with JBQ continued through 2002. The following year she and Mike began a Teen Bible Quiz team for those who had begun learning scripture would continue with those study habits. Through TBQ Mike and Mitzi led many short term mission trips , taking groups of teens into Mexico, Los Angeles Dream Center, inner-city New York and inner-city Miami, teaching teens how to spread the good news of Jesus Christ. Her leadership in TBQ continues through 2008, at which time she began teaching a weekly College and Career Bible Study. She and Mike also led an adult small group in their home until her surgery last November. Mitzi was predeceased by her mother Joan Powell McDaniel. Mitzi is survived by her husband Mike McGill, her son Jacob G. McGill and her daughter Anna Kathryn McGill. She is also survived by her father Carl P. McDaniel, her brother and sister "in-law Kenneth and Phyllis McDaniel and her sister and brother-in-law Penny M. and Andy Gilley. Pallbearers will be Bill Sparks, Gene Garrick, Doug Ferraez, Kelly Kendrick, Bob Meek, Brett Robinson, Rex Gillis, and Allen Schrepferman.
