Helen McCabe Prescott, age 92, of Columbus, MS, passed away May 2, 2011, at Northwest Medical Center in Winfield, AL. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 5, 2011, at 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. David Westmoreland officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 4, 2011, from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Prescott was born January 25, 1919, in Spring City, TN, to the late Pat and Mary Egat McCabe. She, along with her late husband, Ruben Dee Prescott, owned and operated Ruben's Fish House from 1955 until 1993. Mrs. Prescott attended East End Baptist Church for many years and was a member of the Eastern Star. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patsy Jewell. Surviviors include her daughter, Brinda Martin and her husband Tom of Newnan, GA, son, John Prescott of OH, sisters, Evelyn Heath and her husband Howard of Spring City, TN, Penny Conley of Spring City, TN, Shirley Payne and her husband Eugene of Rockwood, TN, and Lillion Vance of Madisonville, TN, grandchildren, Casey Martin of Clearwater, FL, David Martin of Burns Lake, British Columbia, Jeff Martin of Clearwater, FL, Shelby Martin of Newnan, GA, and numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Pallbearers will be Casey Martin, Joey Brackin, Dennis Brackin, Frank York, Jack Guinn, and Tim Brackin. Honorary pallbearers will be past and present employees of Ruben's Fish House.
