Moody Dwight Kennedy, Jr, age 85, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at home after an extended illness. Visitation will be held Tuesday, December 17, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home and Wednesday, December 18, 2013 from 11:00-1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Canton, Mississippi. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Canton, Mississippi, with burial following in Canton City cemetery. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Kennedy was born in Cleveland, Mississippi to Moody Kennedy and Grace Woodruff Kennedy. He served in the United States Air Force. He was a cattleman and farmer in the Canton area for many years. He took much joy in his family of 5 children, 14 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. He was a humble servant of the Lord all his years. He was a minister to the lost and found alike, and was a leader among his fellow believers. Through a prison ministry and teaching Sunday school at the Canton Fire Station, he sought out the lost to lead them on the path of righteousness. As a selfless giver who asked for nothing in return, he is an example of a Godly man for the future men of his family.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Peggy Faulkner Kennedy of Columbus; children, Mary Jane Kennedy Runnels and husband, Sidney, of Columbus, Laurie Kennedy Flora and husband, Gray, of Columbus, David Dwight Kennedy and wife, Kim, of Canton, Bobo Faulkner Kennedy and wife, Julie, of Cullman, Alabama, and Grace Ann Kennedy Cooper and husband, Clark, of Mountain Brook, Alabama; grandchildren, Sy Runnels, Gray Flora IV and wife, Eden, Clara Runnels Armstrong and husband, Chris, Kennedy Flora, Matt Kennedy, Jeffrey Runnels, Stanley Kennedy, Janie Kennedy, Lilla Grace Flora, Penn Kennedy, Dan Kennedy, Lee Cooper, Sally Cooper, and Elizabeth Cooper; great grandchildren, Madison and Cole Armstrong. He was preceded in death by his parents, Moody Dwight Kennedy, Sr. and Grace Woodruff Kennedy; sister, Patty Kennedy Mayo; and special cousin, Clara Rimmer Child and her husband Stanley. Through teaching Sunday School at First Baptist Church in Canton and the Canton Fire Department, prison ministry and a member of Gideons International, he had a heart for the lost.

Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Canton Fire Department, Mens Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Canton, and the Builders Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church of Columbus.
