MARY NEWMAN Mary Nell Newman, age 82, of Columbus, MS, passed away August 25, 2013, at University Medical Center in Jackson, MS. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 29, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Don Both officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, 2013, one hour prior to the service at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Newman was born November 12, 1930, in Columbus, MS, to the late Elliott George Dismukes and Mattie Lou Holder Dismukes. She was a 1948 graduate of S. D. Lee High School. Mrs. Newman worked for California Eastern Avaiation in Columbus and Corpus Christi, TX, before returning to Columbus to work as Wing Operations secretary at Columbus Air Force Base when it was a Strategic Air Command (SAC) base. She was coowner of the Karmelkorn Shoppe in Leigh Mall from 1973 to 1982, and also worked at Newman Oil Company in Columbus from 1982 until her retirement in 1997. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Newman was preceded in death by her two brothers, Bill and Ted Dismukes of Columbus. Mrs. Newman is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Donald G. and Jeannie Wiggins Newman of Caledonia, MS, son Douglas L. Newman of Columbus, MS, grandchildren, Amber Gayle Doughty and James Daniel Newman, great grandsons, Logan and Jacob Doughty, and Tyler, Drew, and Ryan Newman, and sister, Bettie D. Cheek of Norforlk, VA. Pallbearers will be David Doughty, Richard Eairheart, Bo Jarrett, and Daniel Newman. Memorials may be made to Mt.
