MARJORIE HAWKINS Marjorie Jane Buchanan Hawkins, age 84, of Columbus, MS, passed away January 17, 2012, at Community Hospice, Inc., in Verona, MS. Funeral services will be Friday, January 20, 2012, at 1:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Roy Hawkins officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Memorial Gardens of Columbus. Visitation will be Friday, January 20, 2012, one hour prior to the service at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mrs. Hawkins was born July 16, 1927, in Neosho, MO, to the late James Leroy and Nellie Beatrice Shirley Buchanan. She was a graduate of Neosho, MO, High School and worked for a number of years for the Red Cross and as a secretary for Jim Walter Homes. Mrs. Hawkins was a homemaker and member of Calvary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Hawkins, Sr., and daughter, Melinda Ann Hawkins. Survivors include her sons, John R. Hawkins, Jr., of Columbus, MS, and Mark Allen Hawkins of Birmingham, AL, daughter, Deborah Jane Hawkins of Baldwin, WI, sister, Shirley Ann Buchanan of Kansas City, MO, and grandchildren, Jonathan Alec Hawkins, Hailey Rene Hawkins, and Iain Gay. Pallbearers will be family and friends. Memorials may be made to Community Hospice, Inc., P.O. Box 333, Sherman, MS, 38869.
