Roxie Elizabeth Barton Jones, age 94, formerly of Columbus, MS, passed away October 6, 2012, at her daughter's residence in Kodak, TN. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 11, 2012, at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Coffeeville, MS. The interment will immediately follow at Goshen Cemetery near Coffeeville, MS. Visitation will be Thursday, October 11, 2012, from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Coffeeville, MS. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home of Columbus, MS, is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Jones was born June 2, 1918, in Water Valley, MS, to the late James Wesley "Bid" and Sallie Martin Barton. A published poet, Mrs. Jones enjoyed writing of family, friends, and the encounters of everyday life. She wrote of prayer and the Lord, leaving behind a legacy of her deepest thoughts. Most were written while working full time in retail and taking care of her ailing husband, Earl Ivey Jones, by whom she was preceded in death. Mrs. Jones was a supporter of Palmer Home for Children and attended Mountain View Church of Dandridge, TN. Survivors include her son, George Jones of Covington, LA, daughters, Ada Wilbur and her husband Wayne of Kodak, TN, Ann Whitehead and her husband John of Morro Bay, CA, Sally Smith and her husband Eddie of Kodak, TN, and Gwen Credeur and her husband Kevin of Lafayette, LA, sister, Margie Wolfe of Cascilla, MS, seven grandchildren, two step grandchildren, and five great grandchildren. Pallbearers will be William Jones, Wesley Smith, Dillon Credeur, Garrett Jones, Charles Barton, and Rolphe Wolfe. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmer Home for Children, P.O. Box 746, Columbus, MS, 39703.
