Cecil Turner "Sonny" Gibson, Jr., age 77, of Artesia, MS, passed away November 29, 2013, at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be Sunday, December 1, 2013, at 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Ben Yarber officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Beersheba Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, December 1, 2013, from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mr. Gibson was born July 25, 1936, in Lowndes County, MS, to the late Cecil Turner and Birdie Mae Coleman Gibson, Sr. He worked for many years for various railroad companies having retired from Kansas City Southern Railroad. Mr. Gibson worked as a contractor and carpenter for eighteen years and enjoyed wood work. He was a member of Artesia Baptist Church and in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sisters Jeanette Beasley, Colleen "Pete" Gibson, infant sister Mary Elizabeth Gibson and grandson Justin Thompson. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Murline Swartz Gibson of Artesia, MS, son, Joe Gibson and his wife Lisa of Columbus, MS, daughters, Lynn Thompson of Columbus, MS, and Lisa Stuart and her husband Robert of Macon, MS, brother, James David "Gip" Gibson and his wife Debbie of Artesia, MS, sisters, Joyce Ann Morse of Columbus, MS, Saundra Doman and her husband Ed of Dannville, KY, Barbara Nell Chiasson and her husband Gary of Schriever, LA, and Cissy Dodge and her husband Ryan of Thibedeux, LA, grandchildren, Sarah Pittman and her husband Jack, Bo Thompson and his wife Jenn, Holly Campbell and her husband Clint, Stephanie Stuart and Casey Nail, and great granddaughter, Alaina Lynn Thompson.
