Marion Preston Biddy

Marion Preston "M. P." Biddy, age 86, of Columbus, MS, passed away June 2, 2014 at his residence. Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at 12:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Dr. Albert Wilkerson officiating. The interment will immediately follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 4, 2014 from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mr. Biddy was born October 14, 1927, in Parkin, AR, to the late Preston and Jessye Smith Biddy. He was a graduate of Center High School of Memphis, TN, and attended the University of Tennessee where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He was drafted into the United States Army and after his service, attended Mississippi State University. Mr. Biddy was a member of the American Legion and also the Columbus Masonic Lodge #5, York and Scottish Rite bodies, and the Hamasha Shriners Temple. Mr. Biddy, known as "M. P.", together with his wife, "Willa," owned and operated Biddy Saw Works for 43 years. He enjoyed driving the bus for Heritage Academy Athletics for many years and participating in Senior Olympic Bike Riding. He was a member of East End Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Willie Mae Porter Biddy of Columbus, MS, daughters, Marion Biddy McEwen and her husband Steve of Columbus, MS, and Ann Biddy Buster and her husband Chris of Augusta, GA,; son, William "Peppy" Biddy of Columbus, MS, and grandchildren, Joshua McEwen of San Luis Obispo, CA, Jonathan McEwen of Nashville, TN, and Sara Buster Hartley of Columbus, MS. Pallbearers will be Chris Buster, Steve McEwen, Jonathan McEwen, Josh McEwen, Josh Hartley, Sandy Sanders, and Marty Wages. Honorary pallbearers will be Signa Bankston, Patricia McEwen, Jim Faust, Fayette Burns, Jim Borland, George Shallas, Buff Doty, and the Bible Sunday School Class and Winsome Sunday School Class of East End Baptist Church. The family would like to give special thanks to the Baptist Memorial Hospice Staff and caregivers, Mattie, Victoria, Kim, Daisey, Carlee, Betty, and Joyce.
