Dorothy Simmons Freeman

Mrs. Dorothy Fay Simmons Freeman age 89, died Friday, April 25, 2014 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in Gunter and Peel Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Diane Lemmon officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:00-11:00 am Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at Gunter and Peel Funeral Home.

Mrs. Freeman was born January 25, 1925 in Snyder, TX to the late Merle and Flint Simmons. She and her husband moved to Lowndes County in 1943. Mrs. Freeman was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, where she and her late husband Roderick were founding members. She was a bookkeeper for the Columbus City Schools for many. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roderick Freeman; and brother Kenneth Simmons.

Survivors included nephews, Lacy Freeman of Steens, MS; Henry Freeman (Gaila) of Ellisville, MS; Brad Simmons (Sandra) of Dallas, TX;
Albert Simmons (Dorothy) of Dallas, TX; and niece, Melody Reeves (Charles) of Dallas, TX.

Pallbearers will be men of Wesley United Methodist Church, Gary Barnett, David Ashmore, Darrol Frye, and Danny Watson. Honorary pallbeares will be Dr. Michael Duckworth. Elton Barham and Staff of Trinity.
