Mary Etta Atkins Thornbrough Partain, age 86, of Columbus, MS, passed away March 31, 2014, at the Care Center of Aberdeen. Graveside services will be Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 3:00 PM at Friendship Cemetery with Rev. Tommy Gillon officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, April 3, 2014, from 1:00 PM until 2:30 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home.
Mrs. Partain was born February 22, 1928, in Oakman, AL, to the late Bascom A. and Fannie Rose Brown Atkins, Sr. She moved to Caledonia at a young age where she was a 1946 graduate of Caledonia High School. Mrs. Partain was active in the Caledonia School Alumni Association and member of Fairview Baptist Church and the Bethany Sunday School Class. She worked for many years as a teacher's aid and belonged to the Gamma Masters Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi National Sorority. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, M. Lee Thornbrough, second husband, Donald Partain, and brother Donald Wayne Atkins and his wife Kam.
Survivors include her son, William R. Thornbrough of Columbus, MS, brother, B. A. Atkins, Jr. and his wife Jane of Columbus, MS, nieces, Paige Bishop and her husband Terry, and Lisa Petty and her husband David, nephews, Andy Atkins and his wife Diana, and Brian Atkins and his wife Susanne, and three great nieces.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.
