WILLODENE MCCORMICK - Willodene Moore McCormick, age 90, of Columbus, MS died August 21, 2009 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Columbus. Funeral services will be Sunday, August 23, 2009 at 3:00 PM at Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Pastor Terry Maynard and Pastor J. B. Burns officiating. The interment will immediately follow in Beersheba Cemetery. Visitation is also Sunday, August 23, 2009 from 2:00 until 3:00 PM at the church. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Mrs. McCormick was born December 16, 1918 in Carbon Hill, AL to the late Stephen Douglas and Thenie Johnson Moore. She was a graduate of Carbon Hill High School and was valedictorian of her graduating class, having graduated a year early. She married Dale N. McCormick and they had three daughters. Mrs. McCormick was retired from Seminole Manufacturing where she worked for over 40 years. After retirement she attended Mississippi University for Women to pursue her interests in cake decorating, landscaping, and floral arrangements. She was a wonderful cook and lovingly prepared Sunday lunches for family and friends for many years. She never missed making a birthday cake for any of her family members. She was an active member of Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church until her recent illness. In earlier years, she served as a choir member, Sunday School teacher, and church treasurer at Beersheba. Her greatest enjoyments were her family, working in the yard, watching Alabama Football and Atlanta Braves Baseball. She was an avid sports fan of all sports. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McCormick was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, her daughter, Joan M. Pritchard, her son-in-law, Joe A. Pritchard, Jr., her mother and father-in-law, E. J. and Arrie McCormick, her brothers, Bill Moore, Harry Moore, Harry Moore, Cullen Stovall, and her sisters, Elva Hendricks, Jessie McClain, and Nancy Viola Moore. She is survivied by her two daughters, Beth M. Gee (Jerry) and Nancy M. Atkins (Donald), grandchildren, Wendi Franks (Gary), Greg Gee (Kathy), Lori Brown (Doug), Leigh Phillips, Allison Kizer (J. D.), Dale Atkins (Angie), Jody Gee (Betsy), and Shana Maxey (Chris), and great grandchildren, Meagan, Gabe, Morgan, Julia, Jordan, Jodi, Anna Douglas, Brooke, Bill, Beth, Blake, Jack, Drew, Max, Kate Scott, Shaelee and Brylee Jo, and great great granddaughter, Hunter, all of Columbus, MS. Pallbearers will be Greg Gee, Jody Gee, Dale Atkins, Gary Franks, Doug Brown, J. D. Kizer, Roscoe Shepherd, and Don Davis. Honorary pallbearers will be Nettie Murrah, Gary Shepherd, Virgie Gee, Doris Sanders, all past and present Elders of Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church, Dr. Michael Duckworth, Dr. Doyle Sumrall, the staff of ICU at Baptist Memorial Hospital and employees of Aurora Australis Lodge. Memorials may be made to the Beersheba Cumberland Presbyerian Church Cemetery Fund 1736 Beersheba Rd. Columbus, MS 39702.
